Sterling Silver Handmade Chain

Handmade sterling silver paperclip chain with round & oval links. Fabricated by hand using traditional silversmithing techniques. It started with round wire that has been formed to desired thickness and wrapped around a mandrel, in this case, a round mandrel for the small rings. The oval links started out as large round jumprings and have been formed to take the shape resembling a paperclip. After removing the coils from the mandrel, I clean it and saw though it to create individual links. Once I have all silver dust removed from all the links & cleaned up, I then assemble them one by one. When the desired length is met, each joint is individually soldered. The chain is then polished, tumbled and ready. (These are not all the steps, just the ones I think I can fit in the description 😅). The ends of this chain are open, meaning there is no clasp attached. I designed it this way because I want to allow you the option to select the clasp you like most. Please remember to select a clasp you would like to go with this chain.

All measurements are approximate. This piece is made by hand. With that, please consider tiny variations in the craftsmanship.

 

All jumprings are soldered (are not able to be pulled apart) for security and longevity.

 

Your order includes an air tight storage pouch with a small black anti-tarnish reduce the tarnishing of silver. Yellow sunshine polishing cloth is included to keep your piece shining. It's a very slightly abrasive cloth that's impregnated with a polishing compound. To use, simply run the cloth against silver with a bit of pressure. The cloth will get dark overtime from silver chemical structure.

 

All chains undergo an ultrasonic cleaning with soap as well as a final polish before shipping out.

The chain length cannot be extended itself, however I would be happy to add an extender (2 inches) for you and secure it to the chain at no additional cost.

 

The chain can be shortened. I can remove links for you, again, at no additional cost. Please leave a note at check out if you wish the chain to be shortened.

 

For this chain, I am offering 4 choices to select from. At an additional cost I am able to add more than one push clasp. If that is a question of yours, then please send me a message and I will go over the details for additional clasps. Below are the clasp measurements & types:

 

Heart push clasp 13mm x 15.3mm

 

Round push clasp 11.7mm

 

Medium lobster clasp 11.5mm x 6mm

 

Large lobster clasp 13mm x 7.5mm

Claps and extension chains are pre-fabricated.

The Length of the chain can be extended by adding an extension chain. The default length is 2 inches, however, I can accommodate up to 5 inches total, all at no additional cost. If an extension chain is needed, please include the desired length and size of the extension chain in the personalization box at check out. Below are the extension chain measurements:

 

Small extension chain 3mm x 4mm

 

Large extension chain 3.5mm x 4.5mm

 

If you select a lobster clasp and/or extension chain, they will be soldered shut to the chain for longevity. The seams will be permanently closed so the chain will not come off due to a link opening up.
